A while back I found out that tuna curry is not actually a very common curry which is a shame really because it is one of my all-time favourite curries out there! I remember my friend came to the house and she had a look at the curry and was like what on earth kind of curry is that. She is also Pakistani as well by the way, so I was very shocked that she did not know what it was. I gave her some to taste and she loved it! I mean who wouldn’t?

I genuinely believe this is one of the easiest curry recipes out there. It literally comes together in, give or take, half an hour. I will be honest with you here, sometimes I do skip out on adding the onions when I’m in a MAJOR rush because that is probably the step that takes the longest. It still does really good, but it tastes way better with the onions in it. My sister loves this curry…probably because it’s the only curry that she is able to make (joke…well not really).

I’m not really a fan of fish in general to be honest with you. Well, sort of anyway. I’m more of a chicken type person. I would choose chicken over fish any day, but when it comes to choosing between a tuna fish curry or a traditional chicken curry, I would choose this tuna curry every time. It’s ironic really because this has been something of a fish-based week as the other day I made my baked fish masala. Mixing it up with different species of fish.

This tuna curry has just enough spice in it that you can feel it sizzle in your mouth (it’s a good kind of sizzle), but as always you can adjust the spices as per your taste. Reduce them or increase them. Whatever floats your boat. In this recipe I used canned tuna in sunflower oil. I drain the tuna but reserve some of the oil to put into the actual curry itself. Otherwise, it seems kind of a waste of some perfectly good oil. I like to add the frozen peas because I just like the combination in my curry. In sandwiches I prefer tuna and sweetcorn. Speaking of which that has given me an idea for my YouTube channel! See, creativity hits whenever!

This recipe is certainly cheaper than a lot of other curries and it does use ingredients that you’re basically guaranteed to have in your kitchen. So, no need to run to the grocery store! It is also relatively healthy and who doesn’t love a curry that is made so quick? If you have little time and you’re in a rush, then this is certainly the recipe for you. Plus, another thing I have learnt with this tuna curry is you literally cannot go wrong with it. Trust me if my sister can make it anyone can.

Tuna Curry

This canned tuna fish curry is a budget friendly, quick and easy fish curry recipe that does not compromise on flavour. Made with basic pantry ingredients that you are guaranteed to have, it is a delicious pair with homemade chapattis. Try something different with those tins of tuna that are lying around, and you will be guaranteed to not regret it. Perfect for students and families alike, this tuna curry is certainly one to add to your cookbook.


  • 2 tbsp Vegetable Oil
  • 1 Onion/Pyaz (finely diced)
  • 3 Tomatoes (diced)
  • 1 tsp Salt/Namak
  • 1 tsp Turmeric powder/Haldi
  • 1 tsp Chilli Powder/Laal Mirch Powder
  • ½ tsp Black Pepper/Kali Mirch Powder
  • 400g Canned Tuna (drained)
  • 1 Jalapeño Chilli (finely sliced)
  • Coriander/Dhaniyaa (finely chopped)
  • 100g Frozen Peas/Matar


  1. In a pan heat up the olive oil
  2. Add the finely diced onions and cook for 5 minutes on medium heat until softened
  3. Add the finely diced tomatoes then cook for a further 5 minutes
  4. Add the salt, turmeric powder, chilli powder and black pepper
  5. Cook the spices for 5-10 minutes
  6. Add the finely sliced bullet chillies and cook for another 2-3 minutes
  7. Add the canned tuna and mix in
  8. Break the tuna pieces gently and cook for 6-8 minutes
  9. Add the frozen peas and mix in
  10. Cover and cook for 5 minutes
  11. Add the finely chopped coriander
  12. Cook for 1-2 minutes
  13. Your tuna curry is ready!
