Ingredients

  • 250 grams Maize Flour cornmeal
  • Water warm, as needed

Instructions

  • In a mixing bowl, add the maize flour
  • Gradually add warm water to the maize flour, a little at a time, while mixing with your hands. Continue adding water and kneading until the maize flour comes together to form a soft dough. The amount of water needed may vary, so add it gradually until the dough is pliable but not too sticky.
  • Divide the dough into equal-sized portions and shape them into balls.
  • Dust a clean surface or rolling board with some dry flour. Take a dough ball and flatten it slightly with your hands.
  • Roll the dough ball into a circular roti shape, about 6-7 inches in diameter. Add more dry flour if needed to prevent sticking.
  • Heat a tawa or a griddle over medium heat. Place the rolled roti on the hot tawa and cook for about a minute, or until you see bubbles forming on the surface.
  • Flip the roti and cook the other side for another minute. Press gently with a spatula to ensure even cooking.
  • Remove the makki ki roti from the tawa and transfer it to a plate. Repeat the process with the remaining dough portions.
  • Serve the hot and freshly cooked makki ki roti with lassi, pickle, yogurt, or any other accompaniments of your choice.
