Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 15 minutes
Total Time: 30 minutes
Servings: 6 burgers

Ingredients

  • 1 kg Beef Mince
  • Salt
  • Black Pepper
  • Oil
  • Burger Buns
  • American Cheese
  • Lettuce
  • Tomatoes
  • Mayonnaise

Instructions

  • Prepare all the additional ingredients and set aside (see note 1)
  • Separate the beef into 6 equal portions and roll each portion into balls then press down into round patties that are slightly larger than your selected burger buns to allow for shrinkage
  • In a cast iron skillet (or non-stick pan – see note 2) heat up 1 tbsp of the oil over high heat until very hot
  • Season generously with salt and black pepper on one side and rub into the patties then add the patties on to the pan with the seasoned side face down then allow to cook for 1-2 minutes
  • Press down lightly with a spatula then season generously with salt and black pepper again then flip before adding a slice of American cheese and allow to melt for approximately 1-2 minutes
  • Transfer the burgers to a tray and allow to rest for 2-3 minutes
  • In the meantime, toast the burgers buns on the skillet pan (see note 3)
  • On the base of the toasted buns slather on the sauce of your choice then top with the lettuce, tomato, gherkins and onion before adding the burger patty and top half of the burger bun
  • Serve with a side of fries and enjoy!

Notes

Note 1 – Preparing the ingredients beforehand makes it quicker to assemble once the patties are ready.
Note 2 – Be careful with a non-stick pan as you don’t want to ruin the non-stick coating by cooking on too high a heat. To prevent this, keep the pan at a lower heat and cook for a longer. You won’t be able to achieve the same charring effect, but the results will be just as delicious.
Note 3 – Cooking the burger buns after the patties and in the same pan allows for the buns to absorb any excess fat and flavour left behind from cooking the meat
