My last recipe was a pizza dough recipe, so it only seems fitting that I put my pizza sauce recipe up. This classic pizza sauce is essentially a basic tomato sauce recipe. This makes enough sauce for two 12-inch pizzas depending on how saucy you like your pizzas.

I have had a look at other pizza sauces and have kept this as traditional as possible to give an authentic Italian pizza sauce recipe. To make a homemade pizza sauce from scratch will transform your pizzas. There is a great amount of debate as to whether pizza sauce should be cooked or not. I know some people say that pizza sauce should not be cooked at all and some say that you should let pizza sauce cook for hours. It kind of is up to personal preference. My brothers and I all prefer the no-cook pizza sauce, and my little sister prefers the cooked one. However, as majority always rules in my family, I do not cook the pizza sauce.

This homemade pizza sauce freezes well so can be made ahead of time. It keeps well for a month or so you can always make extra and freeze some for later use if required. The recipe for this homemade tomato sauce for pizza tastes delicious and really adds a lot of flavour to the pizzas you make. I might even say that this is the best pizza sauce recipe. To spice it up a bit you can add some chilli flakes as well.

I know people say that pizza sauce is best made with San Marzano tomatoes in this recipe. I have never personally used them, and this pizza sauce still tastes delicious. If you do want to use San Marzano tomatoes be sure to check that they are canned and whole. If the tomatoes are not canned or not whole, then they are not San Marzano tomatoes. San Marzano tomatoes are only ever whole and always come canned.

  • 1 tbsp. Olive Oil
  • 4 Garlic Cloves
  • 400g Canned Tomatoes
  • 1 tsp. Sugar
  • 1 tsp. Salt
  • 1 tsp. Dried Basil
  • 1 tsp. Dried Oregano
  • 1 tsp. Black Pepper


  1. In a food processer add the canned tomatoes, garlic cloves, olive oil, salt, granulated sugar, dried basil, dried oregano and black pepper
  2. Process until smooth
  3. Your no-cook pizza sauce is ready!
