Now, I am used to eating chapattis with all of my curries. It is only when I go to restaurants that I ever get to eat naan. I much prefer naan to chapattis, but chapattis are literally so easy to make. You dash some flour with some water, make a dough, roll it and then cook it. Two ingredients and you’re done.

If you haven’t heard of naan bread, naan is an Indian flatbread that is usually made in a tandoor, which is like an oven made of clay. I actually tried to use a tandoor once in Pakistan. It didn’t work out so well because I ended up burning my wrist. The chapatti didn’t stick either and it fell into the fire of the tandoor. So, I also wasted a perfectly good dough as well… That’s what happens when I attempt new things. It never works out.

I’ve had homemade naan many times before, but I had never actually attempted it myself. However, when I made some masala fish, I set out to make my own plain naan recipe. This easy naan bread recipe is the perfect recipe to show you how to make naan bread that is soft and just melts in your mouth. It is a traditional naan recipe with yeast and yoghurt that will pair perfectly with any curry.

Naan Bread

This homemade naan recipe shows you how to make naan bread that is soft, chewy and delicious. An easy naan bread recipe that is made with basic pantry ingredients. This soft Indian flatbread recipe is one of the perfect sides recipes to accompany all your curries.


  • 500g Plain Flour
  • 1 tsp. Salt
  • 1 tsp. Yeast / 7g Sachet
  • 1 tsp. Baking Powder
  • ½ tsp. Baking Soda
  • 6 tbsp. Greek Yoghurt
  • 1 tbsp. Vegetable Oil
  • Warm Water


  1. In a large bowl, add flour, salt, butter, yoghurt, oil, baking powder and bicarbonate of soda
  2. Combine all the ingredients together
  3. Add warm water
  4. Kneed to create a firm dough
  5. Cover with clingfilm and allow to rise for at least 1 hour
  6. When risen, roll out into circles
  7. Brush with water before placing onto tawa and cooking
  8. Add butter on both sides and allow to cook for 1-2 minutes on either side until brown spots form
