My family love burgers, especially chicken burgers. However, the thing is most of the chicken burgers recipes I could find online were all fried burgers. This obviously posed a bit of an issue because I was trying to reduce the amount of fried foods that we have in the house. So, this is why I came up with this grilled chicken burger recipe.
Now usually I would leave this to marinade, but I have been researching around a lot and according to a lot of culinary experts, marinating does virtually nothing for the flavour or moistness of the chicken. I tested this out and to be honest with you I am going to have to agree with them. It didn’t really seem like there was much of an effect, but I might just try it out again to see if when I marinate the chicken there is a difference in taste.
I used chicken breast fillets and the thing with chicken breast is it is very important that you do not overcook chicken breast as otherwise it loses its tenderness and they become quite tough. I personally do prefer chicken thigh, but it has more fat relative to chicken breast so I chose to use the chicken breasts. Although chicken thigh is still quite healthy if you’re more of fan of chicken thighs. When you do make these chicken burgers, use a meat mallet or anything really – I used a rolling pin – to give all the chicken breast fillets an even thickness. This ensures that the chicken breast cooks evenly throughout.
I added some spices to make a spicy chicken sandwich recipe as my family are very fond of spices. Anything without spices is basically considered bland to them. This spicy chicken burger can be used in a chicken sandwich or just serve alongside some mixed vegetables. I made my own homemade burger sauce and served in some toasted burger buns with lettuces, tomatoes and cucumber.

Grilled Spicy Chicken Burgers
This chicken sandwich recipe gives you quick and easy grilled chicken burgers. A spicy chicken burger recipe with seasoned chicken breasts grilled to perfection and served in between two toasted burger buns and homemade burgers sauce. Skip on the takeaway for these healthy chicken burgers!
- 500g Chicken Breasts
- 3 tbsp. Yoghurt
- 1 tbsp. Tomato Puree
- 2 tsp. Chilli Powder
- 2 tsp. Garam Masala
- 2 tsp. Ginger Paste
- 2 tsp. Garlic Paste
- 1 tsp. Salt
- ½ tsp. Turmeric Powder / Haldi
- 4 tbsp. Olive Oil
- In a bowl, add the yoghurt, turmeric powder, chilli powder, garam masala, salt, ginger paste, garlic paste and tomato puree
- Mix until all the ingredients are mixed evenly
- Add the chicken and coat the chicken pieces with the mixture
- In a grill pan, heat the olive oil
- Add the chicken onto the grill pan
- Cook on high heat for 3 minutes then flip
- Cook for a further 3 minutes then reduce the heat to medium
- Cook the chicken for 5 minutes
- Flip over the chicken and cook for another 5 minutes
