Who Am I?

I’m Sadia, the person behind The Aziz Kitchen. My full name is Sadia Halimah Aziz, hence the name The Aziz Kitchen! Pretty obvious if you think about it.

A 20-and-some year-old Muslim aspiring doctor and writer who loves to experiment with cooking, baking and all things food.

Please note this image is not me, but a random image from the internet to act as a representation of me until further notice.

What Is This Blog?

Writing has always been a passion of mine, but it has always been a thing on the side. My main priority has always been my education, but when COVID-19 hit the world and I was locked inside, I decided to take my passion and create something with it. And from the lockdown, this blog was born…

On this blog, I combine my love for writing with another one of my favourite hobbies, cooking. People say I talk too much, which is good for this blog because it means that I can write posts FOR DAYS. It also means that I talk less in real life which poses a bit of a problem because then everyone thinks I’m in a mood. Then when I start talking a lot again my family tell me to shut up and be quiet. So, kind of a lose-lose situation in every way sadly.

Fun Facts About Me

  • I come from a VERY big family with four brothers and two sisters (say Masha Allah!)
  • I also have SO many cousins (too many to count!) but I should also specially mention the lamppost (NOT her real names – a nicknames OBVIOUSLY) – my most annoying (and sort of favourite, but I would never tell her I said that) cousin who is also like a sister to me
  • I LOVE reading – my favourite books are The Birthday Girl by Sue Fortin (which my sister got me for my 21st birthday) and Fog Island by Mariette Lindstein (the tallest person in the world, aka. The Lamppost, got me this) and If She Did It by Jessica Treadway
  • I am currently in my final year of my BSc Biology degree at the University of Manchester and am hoping to get into graduate medical school!

My Cooking Journey

Over the years I have dedicated a lot of my time and effort in baking and cooking for family and friends. This blog is my way of transforming my recipes to give easy step-by-step instructions to help teach everyone how to create my delicious dishes and magnificent meals (use of alliteration there – English language techniques coming in handy). Don’t get me wrong, my recipes don’t always go to plan and with siblings (and uncles actually come to think of it) like mine, I will NEVER be able to forget my food failures.

Being of Pakistani heritage, a lot of my cooking style originates from there. One of the first dishes I ever learnt to make was a curry. I ended up burning it and my sister has made sure that I have never ever forgot that disaster. As I grew up, I began to experiment with a lot of different cultural foods and recipes from around the world, which I hope this website reflects.

Some Of My Personal Favourites!

Chicken Wraps – I LOVE basically any food that is to do with chicken, and I also LOVE wraps. So, for me chicken wraps are the best. The bonus aspect of chicken wraps is that all my siblings love chicken wraps as well, so I never get any complaints. Usually there is always that ONE sibling that just must eat something else.

Fish Pie – This is another classic dinner recipe in my family because it satisfies everyone. EVEN my parents love this fish pie. My parents don’t really like food if it isn’t curry, but this recipe is something that even my parents tell me to make. So, win-win for all!

Bhindi Chicken – This is my ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE curry out there and if there is one curry that I would spend the rest of my life eating it is this. I know it isn’t a very typical curry and I doubt many people have heard of it. Some people hate okra (strange people) and think it’s slimy and whatever, but I LOVE okra with chicken. Tastes SO good!

Chocolate Trifle – This chocolate trifle is quite complicated and does take a bit of time to make because it involves making a chocolate mousse. I do have a quicker version of this which I make when I need to make a quick dessert, but I wouldn’t really class it as a recipe of sorts because all it is whipped cream with melted chocolate layered with cake bars. I do prefer the one with the mousse, but the simple version is also much loved by my siblings and cousins (my parents – not so much… they hate chocolate).
