Assalaamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatu hu everyone!

Now this post is dedicated to my new YouTube channel, The Aziz Kitchen. I have always been a great fan of cooking and baking so this idea has been lingering in the back of my mind for a long time. I’m not actually sure what kind of epiphany pushed me over the edge to finally do it, but I have summoned up the courage to finally do it. I’m hoping that it will be something fun and will keep me occupied until university starts again.

Obviously because I am just starting out, I know my videos probably aren’t going to be that great. I have actually published my first video, which is an Oreo cheesecake video. I am rather proud of it as it took me a lot of time and effort. Now I have experienced first-hand how to make a YouTube video I can understand the struggles. Whenever I used to watch YouTube videos, it never occurred to me what happened behind the scenes or the effort that was spent into making these videos.

The name of my YouTube channel took me a lot of time to come up with. My sister was pestering me to call the channel A Muslim Girl’s Kitchen or AMG’s Kitchen. But I felt like those names weren’t as catchy as The Aziz Kitchen. Plus, I couldn’t decide what logo to use whereas The Aziz Kitchen logo was a relatively simple design that I made within an hour. I would have paid for someone to do my logo for me but by that point I had already spent a lot on this channel so I decided to just see what I could come up with. I am actually rather proud of it. I know it’s not the fanciest of logos, but it works for a temporary logo and I like it. Sometimes simplicity is best.

Now the great thing about cooking on YouTube is that no one has to ever hear my voice or see my face. I know a lot of cooking channels that do their videos by showing themselves on camera, but I would never be able to put myself out there like some people are able to. I stuck with the bird’s eye view type of cooking video as a way of avoiding all of showing face hoo hah. Trust me, it is a lot harder than it looks. The camera wouldn’t stop moving. So, I had to start again like three times which kind of annoyed my mum because I had just come home from work and I was stressing them out because I hadn’t eaten. That’s mothers for you. May Allah (سبحانه وتعلي) grant our mothers the highest of ranks Jannah Al-Firdaus! Ameen.

Once the video was recorded, the end images were an absolute mess because I had absolutely no idea what to do about angles and camera movements. I kind of just winged it and hoped for the best. I mean the Oreo cheesecake looked really nice and tasted amazing in real life but on camera the images were sometimes questionable in terms of how they looked. It also didn’t help that I did not have the right equipment. One of the clips near the end of the Oreo cheesecake video is a moving video type thing. I used kitchen roll as the base for my phone camera and just moved it along the kitchen roll. So, you know I guess I can add using my initiative to my CV. I feel like this YouTube channel will provide me a lot of skills and experience so even if this does all fail at least I can say I learnt something from it.

After finally managing to record the videos and clips I needed I got a bit too over excited before I realised that I still had to edit. The videos took up a lot of space, so I had to trim them significantly because I want to make my storage last as long as possible. The editing was a long process and quite complicated but something I feel like over time I could learn to deal with whereas with the actual recording of the videos I don’t think I will be able to accustom myself to the anxiety of that.

I actually recorded the video on Monday. I was originally intending to publish the video on Friday because I thought it was the best day of the week to do it due to the blessings of Friday. Due to unforeseen circumstances, I kind of ended up publishing it on Tuesday, a rather random day of the week.

I am unsure as to what to record for my next video. I do want to make a Pakistani curry for the next video, but I am still in the processes of deciding. There are so many different options that I am getting very confused about what to do. There literally is a never-ending list of dishes to make which is also a very good thing for me because there will always be something to do and cooking will never go out of fashion because you know everyone needs to eat. Although with that being said who knows maybe in the future, we won’t even need food and instead rely on patches to put on our skin to provide us with all the nutrients we need. Or maybe there will be cooking robots that just make all your food for you and you won’t even ever need to set foot in the kitchen. I know I am being a tad far-fetched, but I am pretty sure that 100 years ago people did not think airplanes would be a thing. Actually, I just checked that out on the internet and apparently the first powered aircraft was invented in 1903, so just ignore the last part because planes did exist then just not to the commercial level they do now.

If you haven’t already, please subscribe to my YouTube channel and follow me on my Instagram page. I am hoping to post new cooking videos weekly every Friday!
